Notes on turning a HP Z400 Workstation in to a Mac Pro 5,1 running OS X Sierra

Notes on turning a HP Z400  into a Mac Pro 5,1  Sierra

The HP Z400 that I am running has a a Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz quad core chip in it.  The Z400 is a workstation with a Quad Core Xeon Nehalem Processor. It has 12 gigs of Non ECC Ram on it.  It uses a SSD 500g Samsung Hard Drive, though it works well with a cheaper SanDisk SDD as well.

This matches most closely to a 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 in the Clover SMBIOS settings.  And it seems to do very well in that mode.

This off an existing Sierra HDD that I somehow got working. The problem with Sierra and High Sierra seems to be the graphics card. I have two Raedeon RX 560 cards which work well with Sierra 10.12.6 and High Sierra 10.13.6. But they are glitchy with earlier builds than 10.12.6

BIOS Settings

Shutdown Fixes
The BIOS settings above will help with shutdown issues.

These settings in Clover's config.plist seem to work best for booting and also for shutting down.

Use EFI Mounter v3 to mount your drive EFI folder. Open up Clover  Right click on the config.plist and choose "other" for application to open it with. Open it with TextEdit.

In EFI / Clover/ Config.plist  open in TextEdit (Mac). Find the XML entry that is FixShutdown
and change it to FixShutdown_0004.   Save and then unmount the EFI partition using EFI Mounter v3.
